TIPS FOR CAPTURING YOUR KIDS AT HOME

TIPS FOR CAPTURING YOUR KIDS
AT HOME

I love nothing more than preparing your dream set ups and posing your kids and photographing them in my studio. But, being a mother myself to 2 amazing kids taught me that some of my most treasured images have been captured on my phone or in action during normal every day tasks. Images that show their personality, the mess that they make and the everyday craziness I never want to forget.

1.Turn off your flash. It can be very unflattering to your kids. Look for places around the house with soft natural light. Every house has a window which gives gorgeous light. If you are struggling with that, open the door, go outside and place your baby in the doorway.

2.  Photograph simple tasks like bedtime story, brushing teeth, bath time or home schooling and look for interesting perspective to photograph them from.

3. If you have a bit older kids and the weather allows take them for a walk and photograph them at golden hour. It's about half an hour before the sunset. You can capture the most amazing sun kissed images and the most painterly skies at this time of the day.

4. Don’t forget to look at what’s going on in the background. Busy backgrounds can be distracting so keep it nice and simple. If the space is too messy and impossible to quickly clean just change your perspective.

5. Get down nice and low to view the world at their level.

6. Try to capture a connection in between siblings. You can come up with a fun game or just watch them play and wait for this special moment.

7. Edit your photos using apps like Lightroom Mobile for a more finished look.

8. Photograph their surroundings in a beautiful way. You can be sure your kids would love to come back to this photographs to see how their bedrooms looked like when they were little.
Preserve their childhood memories.

9. Play with artificial light. Switch off the lights in the house and give them a torch, phone or supervise them with a candle.
The closest your child's face is to the light the better effect you are going to get.

10. Then share your images. Upload them to social media and share with friends and family around the world.

11. You can also create beautiful video slideshows and remember to print your photos so you have them forever.

12. And lastly, don’t forget to backup your photos for safe storage.
